Fingerprints

So I was watching this episode yesterday, and noticed when that when Dipper, Mabel, and the cops were in the newsmans office, the cops dusted the left-handed axe and said there were no fingerprints. Dipper, Mabel, and Soos all touched the axe though, and thush would have put their fingerprints on it. Should this fact be put in the Trivia section (or an errors section if there is one)?
