Mabel's Scrapbook is a scrapbook seen briefly multiple times in the show. It is used by Mabel Pines to catalogue various events throughout the summer. She fills it with every memory, adventure, and sticker that she collects throughout her time in Gravity Falls.

History[]

Season 1[]

"Scrapbookertunity"

In "Dipper vs. Manliness," Mabel uses the scrapbook to catalogue her attempt to help Grunkle Stan look good to impress Lazy Susan. She takes a picture of Stan and puts it in there, saying that she "never misses a scrapbookertunity." She later plucks Dipper's first chest hair off him when they reunite at Greasy's Diner at the end of the episode, putting it in the scrapbook as another "scrapbookertunity."

S1e12 Trick or Treating Memories

Mabel's other Scrapbook

In "Summerween," Mabel shows Soos all her and Dipper's past Halloween costumes in another scrapbook she has with her called "Trick or Treating Memories." Unlike her main scrapbook, this one is Halloween themed and full of pictures of her and Dipper growing up on Halloween.

In "The Deep End," Mabel shows Mermando her scrapbook. She refers to it as "a scrapbook of human stuff," showing him things in it like her standing with her egs and kicking Dipper in his legs. Mermando is not happy about it (given he has no legs) and it helps eventually spark Mabel's quest in the episode to free Mermando.

Shorts[]

In Mabel's Scrapbook: Heist Movie; one of two shorts dedicated to her scrapbook, Mabel uses it to tell the story of the time she, Dipper, Stan and Soos snuck into a movie theatre to watch a movie after they got banned by the manager.

The mysterious Space Lizard Dogsled race

In Mabel's Scrapbook: Petting Zoo; the other short dedicated to her scrapbook, Mabel tells another story about how her, Dipper, Stan, Soos and Wendy went to the Gravity Falls Petting Zoo and worked together to free a mutant cow. Mabel also shows off other images in her scrapbook from past events such as her doing Smile Dip during the events of "The Inconveniencing," the battle with the gnomes during "Tourist Trapped" and events during "Irrational Treasure." She also shows images from an unseen event where her and Dipper won a dogsled race against a space lizard.

Season 2[]

In "The Golf War," Dipper, to help Mabel get her spirts up after seeing Pacifica outdoing her again, suggests they go play mini golf to unwind and shows Stan and Soos a photo in the scrapbook of Mabel when she was 9, winning a mini golf tournament.

In "Society of the Blind Eye," Mabel, after getting a letter from Mermando that he is getting married, crosses out the section in her scrapbook for Summer Romances and changes the name to "Failed Summer Romances," on account that every romance attempt she had so far that summer had not worked out.

Mabel's other OTHER Scrapbook

During the end credits of "The Love God," another variant of Mabel's Scrapbook is seen called "Waddles and Gompers Big Day," in which we see a montage of various photos Mabel took during the time she had Waddles and Gompers together as a couple.

In "Dipper and Mabel vs. the Future," Mabel is seen flipping through the pages of her scrapbook as she grapples with the realization that summer is nearing the end and her hopes for the future are not turning out as she planned. She's seen excited again about it after her talk with Grunkle Stan and holding up a picture of her with Dipper, knowing she can still rely on him...until she ovehears on the walkie talkie that Dipper is not coming home with her.

In "Weirdmageddon 2: Escape From Reality," a version of Mabel's scrapbook called "Mabel's Memories," is used by her "legal team" to try and prove that real life is bad and then later by Dipper to get her to eventually come back to the real world with him.

Scrapbook to the rescue

Mabel's scrapbook would end up playing a key role at the end of "Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back The Falls," when Mabel uses all the photos and memories within it that she took, to help revive Grunkle Stan's memory after it was lost in order to defeat Bill Cipher. Mabel's scrapbook also serves as the basis for the end credits of the finale, with animated Polaroids being used to show various additional scenes from the summer and after too as the credits role. There are also various things the twins collected seen through out with an ending clip showing Dipper, Mabel and Waddles making it safely back home to Piedmont, California.

Trivia[]

  • While many images in the scrapbook are based on screenshots from episodes, there are several original to the scrapbook photos seen.
  • Mabel also has a separate Sticktionary that she uses to for stickers she has collected. Despite that, stickers do appear in her scrapbook.

    Mabel's Scrapbook season 1 cover

  • Mabel's scrapbook appears briefly in the Call Me Mabel song from 2020.
  • One of the stickers on Mabel's scrapbook cover depicts a shooting star, similar to the one on her main sweater, but with colors similar to that of the bi pride flag.
  • While never confirmed, it is seen as a possible nod to either Mabel herself being bi or another example of the crew working around Disney censors, like with her rainbow sweater in "The Love God."
  • Mabel's scrapbook cover design first seen in "Dipper vs. Manliness" is different to the version seen in the shorts and remainder of the show.
    • The season 1 design had to hearts on the top left and a giant "Summer Memories," name within a white rectangle in a purple background, while the later version of the book said "Mabel's Scrapbook" and had stickers on it.
  • Mabel's scrapbook is loosely based on summer journals that series creator Alex Hirsch and his twin sister Ariel Hirsch would have during their summers growing up. In them, they would write about events that day and tape in them items they found or collected throughout the summer.
