Tales of the Strange and Unexpected - The Grunkle Stan edition is a Gravity Falls book published by Disney Publishers. The book was released on the 23rd of February 2021.[1]

"This collection of Gravity Falls stories shares Dipper and Mabel’s recollections of the adventures they shared visiting their Grunkle Stan’s Mystery Shack. Each retelling is accompanied by a Grunkle Stan version of the same story written form his gruff, humorous perspective."
The book is written very much like Dipper's and Mabel's Guide to Mystery and Nonstop Fun! (even reusing some material made for that book) where it has the writing “in character” between the two just retooling episode summaries as 5-minute bedtime stories.

- The book was first mentioned in March 2020 by “Disney Publishing Worldwide” and “Hachette Book Group” as an upcoming book in the fall 2020/winter 2021 catalogs that is available for book retailers.
- The Mystery of Gravity Falls discovered the list and published it on Twitter on the 8th of April 2020 before creator Alex Hirsch even heard of it.[2]
- This is the first time that creator Alex Hirsch isn't involved or has not contributed to a Gravity Falls related book. The book is completely written by Disney.
- Hirsch's first reaction on the announcement of the book was ''Wtf is this''[3]
- While Alex did not write this book, he hasn't been involved with other Gravity Falls books in a similar regard. He was not a writer in The Time Pirates' Treasure book or coloring book and likely has no involvement in Cinestory books either. The difference in this regard was that he had knowledge of those books and minor involvement such as editing.
- On the 8th of April 2020, Hirsch placed an official reaction on Twitter about the book and his role in it. He said: Briefly returning to twitter to confirm that I have nothing to do with this and have never heard of it. Legally Disney can do whatever they want but creatively I would be very disheartened to learn that non-canon books were being written without my participation or consent.''[4]
- He confirmed with the Tweet that he hasn't been involved with the writing and that he considers the book 'Non-Canon'.
- The title changed in June 2020 from "Bedtime stories of the strange and unexplained - The Grunkle Stan edition" to "Tales of the Strange and Unexpected - The Grunkle Stan edition."

- The book is larger than Journal 3, as seen in a photo posted by The Mystery of GF. [5]
- A lot of the original material made for Dipper's and Mabel's Guide to Mystery and Nonstop Fun! in 2014 was reused in this book.
- Alex Hirsch revealed in May 2021 that Disney had scrapped plans for a Gravity Falls art book him and Dark Horse were planning. [6] This angered many and sent more hate towards this book as it was seen by some that Disney had turned down the art book in favor for this book. However, Alex later stated that this event happened ages ago, so it is not certain if it had anything to do with this book. [7]
