Okay, I'll be honest- GF's beat-for-beat writing is kinda subpar. They often repeat the same kinda themes (Dipper redeems himself and forgives Mabel somehow, and Grunkle Stan unconditionally loves Dipper and Mabel, big mysteries and Mabel falling in love, etc.). I think the reason the show works is because of the fun characters and how well the arc's been staying true to its promises. All of the characters are fun to watch and say witty one-liners. I think the arc itself is just an experiment in and of itself to see if a kids show can build an interesting arc and not cop out. I think the show's largely been successful with it, although it tends to make the big episodes feel either rushed, or out of place in comparison to the lighter eps.
Nah, Season 2 is definitely worse. I hope they just kill off all the "main story" episodes. I don't care in the slightest about Gideon breaking out of jail or Soos's deep secrets. I just want some funky episodes with supernatural stuff. y'know, like S1 E1-10?
The episode "Little Gift Shop of Horror" attempted that, and that was voted one of the least favorite episodes this season. I myself really like the newer episodes. But hey - everyone has their own opinions. :)
Seriously? The main story episodes are the best episodes of the show. Seeing Gideon break out of jail or discovering some inner secret of Soos would be awesome. "Fight Fighters" was a good episode but the main story episodes are better.
Nope. I can't tell you how much I dislike the main story in gravity falls. Right when I saw the author I was like "NOPE. SHOW HIM IN THE LAST EPISODE. GO AWAY, AUTHOR."
The main story is awesome, you have no idea what you're talking about.
I agree. Not about him not knowing anything but about the main plot being good. I mean the author is a big part but the plot is so much more than him. It's not like oh we haave the author show's over now. Six years and the author never found out the secrets of Gravity Falls. It's about early August inthe series and there's still a lot more to go.
All the author reveal really means is that there's more going on now. Dipper's objective has always been to find the author, and now it's almost done. It's going to take a few episodes for that to settles down of course, expecially since the author is is grandfather O.O
It also means we can focus more on the actualplot rather that just Dipper's; namely, Bill's plan. Whatever Bill is planning will probably come into effect during the rest of the season. Seeing as how Bill wanted the portal to activate, I'm guessing the rest of the season will be littered with consequences for activating it. The author, not only will help them, but is necessary for whatever the wheel means. Introducing him at the end of the series would leave Bill's plan to stretch out through another season, along with the meaning of the wheel.

Although I disagree with you on the main plot, I totally agree with you on episodes 1-10 being waaaaaaayyy better than the rest of the series; one of the reasons I like plot episodes best now is because the non-plot ones are so... stupid nowadays. I mean, the first part of season 1 made extremely high quality non-plot episodes and now we're down to talking golf balls. What happened?
