Ballad of Stan is a short song sung by Alex Hirsch (as Grunkle Stan) that could be heard by dialing a number found on the Gravity Falls Journal 3 Infomercial from March 2017.
The number stopped working not long after and calling it now no longer gives you Stan.

Background[]
The Journal 3 Informercial was a nearly 3 minute long ad made by Oh My Disney in 2017 to help promote the real life version of Journal 3 and its then upcoming special edition. The ad saw the return of voice actors Kristen Schaal (Mabel Pines) and Jason Ritter (Dipper Pines), who try to sell their fake Journal 3 accessories, as well as Alex Hirsch (Grunkle Stan) who tries to buy them.
During the ad, a toll free number (888-274-4447) is visible that appears to be callable. The idea in ad is that the number can be called to buy either the book sweaters or JOURNALERT products that both Kristen and Jason are trying to sell.
However, upon calling the number for real, you are greeted to Grunkle Stan saying the following,
"Hello. It's me, Grunkle Stan. Thank you for calling the Mabel sweater buying, purchase number, phone hotline. Um, the bad news is those weren't real products. It was a joke. Just a little goofy haha fun times uh. But the good news is that I'm about to sing a song for you." |
Stan then proceeds to sing a song while playing a ukulele. He sings about how he's quite a man and how he went to jail but then got out by punching a guard in the face. He also sings about how he wears a suit and that all the ladies find him very cute. He then asks people to please give him a hand...or a couple thousand dollars.
After the song ends, he says it's a toll free number, so you get what you pay for, likely as a reponse to anyone who may critique his singing skills. The call then ends.
Lyrics[]
Oh, he's quite a man
That uncle Stan
He went to jail
But he got out of jail by,
punching a guard in the face
He wears a suit
And all the ladies say,
"HE'S SO CUTE!" (That's the ladies)
Oh, what a man
What a man
What a man that Grunkle Stan
Give him a hand,
Or a couple thousand dollars...
PLEASE!!
It's a toll free number, you get what you pay for.
Trivia[]
- The song was uploaded in full quality to the "Shmebulock" Soundcloud page; a page known to be owned by Alex Hirsch and originally used to upload audio recordings for fans who won prizes for contests he held.[1]
- This was the first upload on Soundcloud page since 2015 and the most recent one too as of late.
- A lower quality but full version of the call audio uploaded by TheMysteryofGF showed that the full audio recording was 1:20 long.[2]
- Stan calls himself Uncle Stan as opposed to Grunkle Stan at the start of the song. This is one of the few times he does so or anyone refers to him by Uncle Stan instead of Grunkle Stan.
- The number no longer works and dialing it now will lead to a possible scam number.
