Mabel and Dipper hugging in "Tourist Trapped."
The Awkward Sibling Hug is a recurring saying and motion. It involves Dipper and Mabel hugging stiffly, and then patting each other on the back while saying the words, "Pat, Pat" in a robotic, stiff tone. Supposed to embody awkwardness, it makes fun of random awkward hugs after big adventures. First seen in "Tourist Trapped," after Mabel and Dipper defeat all of the gnomes with the leaf blower. They get out of the golf cart, and Dipper requests an Awkward Sibling hug, and Mabel accepts. It is found as well in "Weirdmageddon 2: Escape From Reality." Once Xyler and Craz finish their case, Dipper steps up and tells Mabel about how they've always been together, even in rough times. This makes Mabel realize that she doesn't want to be in Mabeland anymore, and she never really did. Dipper asks for an Awkward Sibling Hug, and Mabel gives him a Sincere Sibling Hug. They are warned by the inhabitants of Mabeland not to pat each other on the back, and threaten Mabel's ownership of Mabeland, but they do anyway, causing Mabel to lose Mabeland, and Dipper, Mabel, Wendy, and Soos all return to Gravity Falls. It is unknown how often Dipper and Mabel do this off of screen.
